Choosing the Right Tail Extension
|
Custom Tails can be purchased in any weight or length. Our tails are available in over 20 tail colors, and we can blend different tail hairs to match an out-of-the-ordinary colored tail. The heavier and longer the tail...the higher the price. The less common tail colors - white, silver, gray and flaxen are more expensive, due to the scarcity of the hair. Our in-stock Custom Tails are available in ½ pound, ¾ pound or one pound, but any weight can be made up. Custom Tails are available in a blunt end or tapered (natural) end. Most young horses will use a shorter ½ pound tapered end tail, to look more natural with the tail they have, and appropriate to their age. Most mature show horses will wear a one pound blunt or tapered end tail. Custom Tails are available with the following types of attachments: braided horse hair ties, braided horse hair loops or tube end attachments.
We also carry rendered tails, which are horse tails still on the hide. Rendered tails work well with horses that have lost most of their tail hair due to tail damage, or have whose tails have been chewed. These tails are shaped to form around the horse's tail bone, effectively covering up and taking the place of the existing tail. Rendered tails also work well as a tail extension - another way to add fullness and length to your horse's existing tail.
When choosing a color, the general rule of thumb is to match your horse's most predominant tail hair color. Determine the length you need by measuring from your horse's tail bone down to however long you want the tail to be - usually around the fetlock/pastern area. Weight is a matter of personal choice. However, a little less is better than a whole lot. You want the tail to be a complement to the horse, not overpower it.
